Tien Ngoc Nguyen or Sweet Valentien has been turning heads with his incredible costume creations for the past few years, performing and appearing in events all over the world. A frequent model for Fashion Weeks and magazines, Tien’s creativity exudes from every pore. Performer, model and creative director, we are always excited to see what he comes up with. Tell us more about yourself Tien
Saigon is the place where I was born and raised. It connects with; and has a very special influence on the art I am creating. My mother's sweet tea and my own character come together with some inspiration taken from Valentine's Day to birth the name Sweet Valentien. As a Drag artist, I want to bring the Drag culture of Vietnam and Asia to the world. Haus Of Valentien is currently the pet-project I am cherishing and nurturing so that it can explode and bring together young drag artists to showcase their unique talents, passions, and colors.
In what way does color pick you up on a gloomy day?
On a gloomy day, my Book Room is my best friend. I have at least 1000 books on my shelves and half of them have pink covers and spines. A Lo Fi playlist, a House Of McQueen book, a cup of peach tea, and Bún; my adopted dog chilling on the bean bag with me. I spend a gloomy day under the gentle, pink orange sunset just like that!
How did this color Palette inspire your creation?
Pink is my signature color. I'm really addicted to it like I'm addicted to my fiance. Today I can design a full pastel look and you will see a moving cotton candy ball. Tomorrow I can design a look using dark pink that looks super sexy; but still super glam like Marylin Monroe. Sweet Valentine is truly a gift box full of surprises and you should check it out.
